Existing Treatments
There is a good deal of existing treatments available for hay fever, and most of them have been on pharmacy shelves for decades. Broadly speaking, existing treatments fall into a handful of groups: antihistamines, steroid nasal sprays, other nasal sprays, eye drops and desensitisation.
Each works in a different way and each suits a different person. Some tackle one symptom well and leave the others untouched. Some are effective but bring drawbacks that make them difficult to use every day for months on end.
Very few people find a single treatment that covers everything, which is why so many end up using two or three in combination.
Treatment Options Available
Antihistamines: The most widely used hay fever treatment, taken as tablets or liquid, and effective across most symptoms.
Steroids: Prescribed and bought as nasal sprays, and particularly effective on nasal symptoms.
Other nasal sprays: Over-the-counter decongestant sprays, useful in the short term.
Eye drops: A range of preparations aimed specifically at itchy, watering eyes.
Desensitisation: A course of treatment intended to reduce sensitivity to an allergen over time.
Where The Hay-Band Fits In
The Hay-Band is not a medicine and does not belong in any of the groups above.
It contains no active ingredient and nothing is absorbed into the body.
That means it can be worn alongside whatever you already use, without needing to stop anything or wait for one thing to wear off before trying another.
If you are managing your hay fever with a combination of treatments, it is simply one more thing you can add.
